DMSO is a polar aprotic solvent widely used in bioconjugation. This solvent can be considered as very important co-solvent for Click reactions to label various objects with poorly water-soluble fluorescent dyes. DMSO is also recommended as an auxiliary solvent in the reaction mixture when a hydrophobic label is used for protein labeling, or when a label molecule needs to be aliquoted before the reaction.
